Nissan Leaf parked in a lot in a place with over 95% coal-fired electrical generation. Maybe it should say “Zero Direct Emissions” or “Acid Rain is a Myth” or something like that. Maybe “NIMBY Emissions.”

Just a pet peeve of mine with the electric crowd.

Well, it does have zero emissions itself. That just means your area needs to get its act together.

Compared to a standard car is does have Zero Emissions.

Subaru is arguably worse: “Partially Zero Emissions Vehicle.” There’s no such thing as partially zero... There’s zero, and non-zero.

Really all vehicles are partially zero emissions, because they don’t create any when they’re off.

I’ve never been a vanity plate guy, but if I ever own an EV I am 100% getting a plate that says “rolling coal”.

This one drives me nuts. And it’s not just Subaru. Honda, Ford, Hyundai, and VW(lol) also have cars sporting the badge.

The PZEV designation indicates it doesn’t leak any emissions such as gas fumes from the filler neck.

And all cars from the past 20 years are essentially zero-emitting, except for certain cheat box diesels

That’s the entire idea behind PZEV, that they don’t produce emissions when they are off. A lot of cars will leak fuel vapors and other gasses when they are off.

I refer to them as REVS - remote emissions vehicles.

Interestingly, that just means zero evaporative emissions from the fuel system. It also requires like a 15 year warranty on emissions parts

Yeah unless they charge it off PV at their house, or wind... yeah I hate the smug Tesla people here in the bay area with plates that say that shit.

It’s a very clean coal powered power plant.

Should Nissan alter the badge according to what area the car is charged in?

Where I live there a supermarket chain that wants to be “CO2 neutral” by 2020 or something. Think they’re gonna buy a couple of billion trees or something... but the trees would be there anyway what’s the point

It’s a pet peeve of mine that this peeves some people! The cars getting to zero is a good step. Then the onus shifts to the rest of the production line. If we never made any of it better because we can’t fix everything at once, we’d get nowhere.

Of course, fixing the supply chain is less visible than fixing the car itself. Yet it still impacts the price of the car. People don’t want to pay for that.

I should put one of those on the front fender of my car, and if someone asks I can say “But the exhaust pipe is in the back; that only applies to the front of the car, which emits zero emissions.”
